Tips from the Service Manager – FUEL SYSTEM OVERVIEW

July 11, 2016 § Leave a comment

FUEL SYSTEM OVERVIEW

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the engine exhaust to verify accuracy of the air/fuel ratio delivery. Whenever the oxygen sensor indicates the oxygen level is off, the PCM adjusts the air/fuel ratio as needed.

FuelSystemOverview

Because the engine’s fuel needs are constantly changing, the PCM relies on various sensor inputs to determine exactly how much fuel is needed for optimal engine operation.

These inputs include:

  • exhaust gas oxygen (O2 and A/F sensor)
  • throttle position (throttle position sensor)
  • engine RPM (crankshaft position or camshaft position sensor)
  • intake air temperature sensor
  • coolant temperature sensor
  • intake manifold vacuum, and barometric pressure (mass absolute pressure sensor)

Changes in these signals allow the computer to instantly change injector operation and deliver the right fuel mixture to meet the engine’s demands.

Battleground Kia recommends servicing your fuel system every 15,000 miles to maintain performance and fuel efficiency. Call Battleground Kia for more information at 336-282-0115 or go online at www.battlegroundkia.com to schedule an appointment.

This month’s employee spotlight is on Mrs. Tiffany Pennell, our veteran Accounting Clerk! Tiffany originally hails from Gibsonville, N.C but grew up right here in Greensboro, attending North East High School. She first started working as a receptionist for Battleground Kia when she was only 14 years old! After leaving high school, Tiffany would attend UNC Charlotte, where she then began working for one of our sister dealerships in Charlotte. Eventually she would come back to Battleground Kia to work in the accounting office. Tiffany says that her favorite thing about working for Battleground Kia is that it feels like one big family here. She also says that the most important thing for someone to be successful is to be organized and diligent in the task at hand, and above all to believe in themselves.

Tiffany

When not working Tiffany is at the gym working out, morning and evening, or furthering her studies in accounting and finance. She would eventually like to get her CPA! Tiffany has three older brothers, and a husband who is in the Navy. She also has an up and coming birthday where she will be turning 23, and will be going to Florida in order to visit family! Her favorite food is Italian spaghetti and meatballs, she likes the Seattle Seahawks, and loves watching baseball even though she doesn’t have a favorite team. Unfortunately, Tiffany will soon be leaving us, as she will be moving to Virginia when her husband finishes his tour and comes home! We will sorely miss Tiffany, and we all wish her the best! Thank you for everything!

Automatic Gear Changes: The automatic transmission is designed to adapt the engine power to meet various road and load conditions. It does this automatically after the driver selects the range.

  • The automatic transmission uses hydraulic pressure to apply and release internal clutches that control the various gear combinations.
